My name is Alexis Barakat and I am proud to serve as a co-opted member of Te Poari Kura o Hato Mātene (St Martins School Board), representing the interests of our whānau māori at Hato Mātene.
My tamariki currently attend Te Kura o Hato Mātene in years 3 and 4.
I grew up in the Waikato and moved to Ōtautahi in 2019 from the Coromandel Peninsula to be closer to whānau and raise my kids in a family-friendly community . I am actively involved in school life through our whānau rōpū meetings, Wednesday morning te reo Māori & waiata sessions and coaching sports teams.
While relatively new to governance I bring with me knowledge and skills in Human resource mangement and employment relations, leadership and te ao Māori. I am passionate about kotahitanga, diversity, and supporting student success.
I look forward to the opportunity to grow in this space and contribute to a nurturing school environment where tamariki feel valued and inspired to learn.
